Found my way here via Already Pretty. I’m older than you guys. I think the body image issues have in some ways gotten worse even than when I was young. I do whatever I can to keep my daughter – who was also a dancer – from agonizing. The transition from ballet body to human body was rough.

Jem, Ariel (The Little Mermaid), remember Beaches? The girl played the young Barbara Hershey, she was gorgeous! As I got older, yes the body image issue started happening, I was 9 when I decided I was fat, that makes me so sad.
My body image has changed for sure, at 27 now, for 2 years I have been comfortable with myself. Great advice to turn negatives into positives.

Ahhhhh you guys are too cute for words.

I’m trying to think of examples of childhood idols, but I’m kind of drawing a blank. I do remember that I somehow managed to befriend the two girls in my grade who got boobs before I did (meaning in fourth or fifth grade, as opposed to sixth grade like me). Although I was *very* tore up at the time over how flat chested I was, I find it kind of funny looking back – knowing that I went from zero to C-cup over one summer and then they never stopped growing, ha!

But anyways, yeah, I don’t really remember specific idols – just wishing that my face was clearer, hair wasn’t so damn curly, etc. Not that that’s any healthier!
