Articles, blog posts, and essays fly across our desk by the hundreds, daily… but every so often, we come across one that’s so remarkably infuriating that the only way to truly express our feelings is to rant about it. The easiest way to rant? Video. So welcome to our first installment of Article Outrage, hosted by Elle.

  • I love this rant, and completely agree.

I saw some scrutiny on this photo last week and was just shocked. Personally, I think this is the best she’s ever looked.

  • Ah! I have to wait until I’m at home to watch this, but I’m so glad you girls have addressed this. Some of the coverage of it just made my stomach turn.

Are we so disconnected that a natural looking, beautiful woman isn’t something our media knows how to appreciate or even recognize any more? Unbelievable.

  • I was at the office when this video was made (damned day job!) but wanted to add my two cents to the mix.

However, it’s a day later, and I’m not as outraged…just dumbfounded. Is the author of the original “Scarlet needs makeup” post such an idiot that (s)he doesn’t realize that adding rouge to Scarlet’s face defeats the entire purpose? How can someone have such a short, superficial thought process that they don’t even think beyond the societally accepted physical?

  • All for the sake of garnering information from their readers and creating a false sense of ‘my opinion matters online’.

Well, the good thing is we’ve got people like you willing to tell it like it is! Nicely done.

  • Good rant. What the hell is wrong with people?

  • That was hilarious. I am not a reader of French Elle but I applaud anyone who defends the natural look.

But let’s be realistic a beautiful person suddenly not wearing makeup and still appearing beautiful is no shocker. Let them try it with someone over the age of 40 perhaps, that would be interesting and more encouraging to women regardless of age.

  • BRAVO! I know I’m a little late to see this post, but everything you said in this video rant — which, by the way, was hilarious & kick-ass — I agree with. The nerve of some people!

& you would NEVER see something like that done in America. That’s the only reason why they did it in France, was because people there are a lot more open-minded & nice. That magazine cover would be ripped to shreds if it were here in the states. & that is so sad.

I can’t wait for another video rant. ;]

  • Your number one fan

The double “L” in maquillage is pronounced like a “Y.” Just like in yoyo.

    Love you!

(Ohhh double Elles, my heart is a flutter!)

  • Lali

Totally agree! Funny thing though is that this is not her natural hair colour, so in a way she *is* wearing make-up. I wish she would have gone all the way and taken the picture with natural lighting, her real hair colour and not been air-brushed. Like the pictures you guys did (where you look soooo beautiful btw!)

  • Oh my goodness! I could not agree with you more. This post was amazing, amazing, AMAZING. Very inspirational and a wonderful way to remind people of the absurd definition of “beauty” that the media has made.
