Autumn in New York (& Company)
We’ve spent a lot of time, over the past few weeks, talking about the best fall and winter styles for each body type. What we haven’t yet covered is where you can find a long-wearing, long-lasting jacket – a place that covers not only the requisite straight-bodied size two or the ultra-curvy twelve, but everything else, too.
Enter NY&Co. Each of the jackets below come in sizes two through eighteen and many could work for pears, apples, straights, and hourglass girls. We put them into four sections: Trenches, Moto Jackets, Colors and “Other” (bombers, military and even a shimmer option) to help you find the perfect match. Plus, how can you ignore these ridiculous sales?
TRENCHES

Wool Blend Tweed Trench: $149.95
Elle: Okay, this trench is out of control. We waffled between which color we should choose for the post (black or brown) for about 10 minutes before deciding on this one. If you look at the
black version (also adorable), you’ll truly see the versatility of this trench, as it’s styled completely differently, and looks just as amazing. The wool-blend will keep you really warm, while the detailing on the coat makes it almost more “form” than “function”. Almost.
Jennifer Nicole: Because we giggled about it, I have to mention it: a trench with leggings does not an outfit make. However, I do love how warm and cozy she looks, while still showing some skin. (Great ankles, Miss Model.) As for the coat: belted cuffs! I’m sold.

City Style Plaid Short Trench: $69.95 (was $89.95)
Jennifer Nicole: Again with the totally structured, gorgeously green work-to-happy-hour jacket. Every time I see it, I can’t help but think of some nameless woman, walking around in downtown Seattle while wearing this colorful trench. With something as simple as skinny jeans or fitted slacks, she’d be a stand-out among all of the black-and-grey business suits.
Elle: I know, you guys are sick of seeing this jacket by now. (No you aren’t, you love it.) It’s just too perfect a piece not to show. It’s so classic, but it’s still eye-catching and unique.
MOTO JACKETS

City Style Faux Leather Jacket With Knit Insets: $89.95
Elle: Classic (faux) leather jackets are a must. This one has great curve-creating, or curve-highlighting seams that would also make a straight-bodied girl look sleek and put-together.
Jennifer Nicole: I’ve wanted a motorcycle jacket for eeever. I can’t decide if this one or the one below is my favorite – they’re totally different styles – but one of them needs to be mine. I mean, this one is infinitely classic…

City Style Motorcycle Jacket: $89.95
Jennifer Nicole: …but this one is so soft and feminine! It could easily be styled old west or hippie-style, but I’d be more likely to pair it with greys and whites, or jewel tones, to create lots of contrast.
Elle: The color of this jacket alone reminds me of the 70s, and makes me want to pair it with a flowy floral top and jeans. Add a chunky cream-colored scarf, and voila – perfection.
COLOR

Wool Blend Trench: $149.95
Elle: WOW, pink! And lots of it. No, really. That’s a lot of pink. That’s what I have to say.
Jennifer Nicole: This “pink” thing may have more to do with Elle’s screen than the jacket: I see a red jacket, and kind of dig it. Classic cut, bold color. If your wardrobe’s color palette compliments red, this is a jacket that will get tons of compliments, year after year. (Is anyone else seeing pink?)

Wool Blend Funnel Neck Coat: $149.95
Jennifer Nicole: God, this is stunning. The color, the big buttons, that chin-skimming collar – the only thing it needs, in my opinion, is a belt.
Elle: I. Love. A. Funnel neck coat. Maybe more than any other kind of coat, funnel necks make me feel glamorous. I get to feel the wool collar on my chin, and the feeling of “bundle” that results is irreplaceable. Every woman should own a funnel neck coat at some point in her life. Fortunately, this classic cut is great on almost every shape.
OTHER

City Style Wool Blend Bomber Jacket: $62.96 (was $89.95)
Elle: This jacket is wonderful. I love that it’s a bomber that isn’t skin-tight, it’s got layers and, hey, it’s like a real bomber jacket, (No, pilots do not fly planes in plaid, fitted jackets with faux fur detail.) While I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that this jacket can be dressed up, it is perfect for a winter walk through the snowy city, which I’m so excited for.
Jennifer Nicole: I agree with Elle: this is a more casual jacket, but what true bomber isn’t? It also comes in pink (beware the stock photo – it looks way more bulky than it is), black and brown, but we prefer the muted green.

Double-breasted Shimmer Jacket: $79.95
Elle: At first, I questioned this coat. I did. It’s called a “shimmer” coat and, well, you saw my reaction to the “Searing Magenta” coat above. (No, really, that’s the name of the color.) This coat, though – I think I like it. I definitely love the color. The hood is a beautiful feature, but the fact that it’s detachable irks me. Not only do I despise visible buttons on the collar of a coat, but in the closeup of the jacket, you see the normally wide collar is pushed up, and is nearly against the face. This scares both of my helix piercings like you wouldn’t believe. Overall, though, if the hood were just removed entirely – I’d definitely wear it. Well, I’d wear it if I were an hourglass with a smaller bust, a pear, or a straight-figured girl, to be sure.

City Style Military Jacket: $59.95
Elle: Don’t scream! We know you’re almost sick to tears of seeing “military-inspired this” and “we all want to look like Balmain”-that… But hear us out. This jacket, while it is military inspired, is maybe one of the most unoffensive versions I’ve come across. It doesn’t scream “I’M TRENDY, OMG LOOK! BUTTONS!”, but it also makes a statement the does differ from the norm. The buttons almost remind me of the fasteners up a pair of spats, which could turn this coat from military into something a little more Victorian…
Jennifer Nicole: I used to have a similar jacket to this, and I got so much wear out of it. This style transitions from fall, to winter, to spring, and even into those blustery summer nights, worn open and loose. I don’t care that it’s trendy – I’d have worn my old military-style jacket for the past few years, if it hadn’t worn out!

Miss Elle, you need your monitor calibrated! I’m at work & tots see red.

i really wish that babydoll cut coat would come in another, warmer fabric because it is so cute.
