Every day at TDHQ, we get an onslaught of PR emails. Some are good, some are just ok… But the vast majority of them follow this simplistic formula:
[Name of celebrity] spotted wearing [name of random brand] [name of random article of clothing]s in [name of expensive-to-travel-to location]!
Sure, it’s nice to know about brands, and I guess it’s nice to know what really, really, uncontrollably wealthy people are wearing… But it begs the question: Should we care, really?
Does the fact that Kate Bosworth is wearing some more Chanel, or Lindsay Lohan is wearing some random LA fashion brand make a difference in what you want to wear?

I occasionally see something on a celebrity that I’d love to see in my closet, but it never is BECAUSE the celebrity was wearing it. It’s because I like the piece of clothing, and think it would loo good on me.

Posted by Stormy | July 19, 2010, 3:09 pmAt first, I was going to say that they have no influence on my style choices, but I guess a few of them do. Not saying that I can afford anything that they wear, but sometimes I’ll see a look and think, “Cute!” and then see a similar look (for much cheaper) in the store and buy an item or two. Should the credit go to the stylist or the celebrity? I’m not sure…

Posted by Sheena | July 19, 2010, 3:52 pmI’m a vegan so I don’t wear leather, wool, silk, etc., and I have heard about some cool brands from stories about vegan celebrities like Emily Deschanel, Natalie Portman, and Alicia Silverstone (it is hard to find nice non-leather shoes!). So I guess I am influenced in some way, and I wouldn’t have heard about those brands otherwise. So I voted sometimes.
