I do almost all of my shopping online. Almost. Well, we’ll say 75%. As you learned in the In-Between-y Blues post a little while ago, I’m not quite Plus Sized, and not quite perfect for the Misses section, either. And, as I’m sure many of your in-between-y girls can relate, if you take a look in the Misses or (god forbid) Juniors section to see if they’ve got your size, and they don’t… Taking a step into the Plus Sized section can often make you feel like you’ve aged about 30 years.
Shapeless, blousey, muumuu-like contraptions hang from hangers displaying what life they have in them – very little. Awful colors like “smokey peach” and “mint sage” litter the aisle while tapered, elastic-waist “trousers” taunt you from the walls. Photographs of size 4 women are scattered about on the walls, wearing obviously pinned-back versions of the apparel massacre that sits before you.
Why don’t they recognize that women under 55 (with a sense of style) have large bone structures, hereditary huge boobs, and soccer legs, too? There are vibrant 20-somethings with a need for fashion, here! Throw us a bone!
Well, I was lurking the various internets today, looking for some amazing clothes (shocking, I know), and I came across BabyPhat. Yes, BabyPhat
. They have a Juniors’ section and a Plus Sized section. I first went to the Juniors’ to see if their larger sizes would fit my measurements. Their landing page looked like this, all a-scatter with cute clothes:

I absolutely love those pants on the right. And that dress! Ugh, but their size 13 doesn’t fit my size 14 body. Damn. Onto the Plus Size section with a sigh…
Until I see the Plus Size landing page:

… Now you wait just a minute there, BabyPhat! It’s not fair to computer manipulate the Junior pictures to make them look “plus”. C’mon. I’m not that stupid. I see that you’ve stretched the original bottom left shirt to fi-… Oh. Wait, the shirt on the “plus” model is pink… While the “juniors” model is… green. Color manipulation? No… Oh, dear – could it be?
Could it be that the same clothes that are available to Misses/Juniors are also available for PLUS SIZE?!
Sweet Mary, it’s a miracle. Every single garment (save for one) is available in the same style, same shape, same colors.
All I can say is…
Thank you, BabyPhat. Finally, someone gets it.

Someone is sort of doing it right… Now if only their Plus clothes actually fit larger plus women and not just the inbetweenies!
I want to like BP so much, and maybe it’s just what has been available in-store in Canada, but it just isn’t THERE yet, know what I mean?
The styles are cute but the fabrics they use are often big no-no’s for anyone with rolls or flab. It looks great on a fit model, but not so great in person
But a definite A+ for effort!
