Readers! If you haven’t seen the television show Dollhouse and intend on watching it, you’ll want to skip this post. I’ll be speaking pretty openly about the first season of the show, which includes – you guessed it! – spoilers. You’ve been warned!
When I think of actress Miracle Laurie, especially in her role as the adorable-yet-kickass sleeper active November in Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, a specific internal dialogue comes to mind:
“Damn, she has got some amazing legs…wait a minute, did she just kick that guy in the back of the head and break his neck?”

If suddenly whooping your attempted murderer’s butt while wearing your boyfriend’s dress shirt isn’t awesome, I don’t know what is.
Mellie (a.k.a. November) is the kind of character that I hope we see more of in the media: a well-rounded woman who proves that you can be smart and sexy without losing your femininity…as well as retain some sneaky bad-ass ninja skills beneath your media-scrutinized curves.

Miracle Laurie, the actress who plays November/Mellie, lives up to her role in Dollhouse and then some. In every photo and video I’ve seen she’s been charming, unassuming and completely in control of herself…while being totally at ease. She seems comfortable with who she is, the roles she plays, and how she sees herself. And she’s almost always smiling!
[Tiny note from Elle: Upon seeing the above picture of "November", I was floored. Her character is wearing the Frye Veronica Harness Boot. These are an ultra-coveted piece among fashion-lovers everywhere; however, the unspoken "rule" is that there should be some space around your leg in the boot, you know, because it makes you look thin. (C'mon, ladies, you might be inclined to deny it publicly, but we all know it's true.) I love the way that November rocks the boots - and her calves COMPLETELY fill the shaft. Another small step for body variety acceptance in fashion. She looks amazing!]

When it comes to Miracle Laurie’s fashion sense, I have only one word: Wow. Miracle wears a lot of patterns to press events, and doesn’t seem even a little nervous about items that sparkle, drape, cling – anything! I’ve seen her in everything from knee-high boots to flowing dresses and tailored suits, and she looks fantastic in all of it. I’m sure some of that is attributed to a stylist, but her personality certainly shines through, and it’s obvious that she knows she looks good.
The best part about Miracle Laurie, as well as her role in Dollhouse, is that her weight is never thoroughly discussed. Though her “imprint,” Mellie, seems unsure and shy (in “Man on the Street” she remarks that she is “not the ‘gold standard’ in LA”) her other personalities in the show are as strong as the rest of the dolls: using multiple crime-committing aliases in the episode “Haunted,” as a bounty hunter in “Omega,” and, of course, as the killer sleeper active in “Man on the Street.”

Recently, Fox confirmed that they are indeed renewing Dollhouse for a second season. Though November was released from the Dollhouse at the end of Season One, I’ll be back to see if she makes a reappearance (and I have a feeling she will). Even if Miracle’s contract with the show is up, though, I’ll keep watching, in support of the type of media that portrays multiple shapes and sizes of women with all the abilities and positive personality traits they can contain. Thanks, Miracle Laurie and Dollhouse, for making it happen!

Not only is her weight never mentioned (yay!), but they explicitly state that all the dolls were choosen specifically because they are foxes. All the dolls ooze sex appeal, according to the show’s standards.
